Announcing the founding of The Signature School
As an extension of this commitment to theater education, starting this fall, The Signature School opens with a program of classes for older teens and adults. The inaugural session offers classes in theater training; master classes in design, directing, choreography, and dance; and a five-part seminar, The Making of a Musical. The Signature School curriculum offers an exciting opportunity for students of all ages and experience levels to delve into various aspects of theater and meet artists involved with Signature’s critically-acclaimed productions. Classes will be taught by actors Will Gartshore, Sherri L. Edelen, and Nancy Robinette, actress and Signature Theatre co-founder Donna Migliaccio, playwright Paulette Laufer, Music Director Jon Kalbfleisch, choreographer Karma Camp, set designer James Kronzer, and Signature Theatre co-founder and Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer. On August 4, Signature hosted its second annual Open House. We welcomed over 3,000 guests to the Theatre for a day of cabarets, concerts, master classes, theater tours, and family activities.

In the short span of its 18-year history, Signature Theatre has gained a national reputation for its unsurpassed work in reinventing classic musicals as well as developing new musicals for the American stage. Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer’s commitment to nurturing emerging musical theater artists led him to co-found, with choreographer and Signature Artistic Associate Karma Camp, the Overtures Musical Theater Institute, an intensive two-week workshop held each summer at The Kennedy Center.
