2005 HELEN HAYES AWARD NOMINEES ANNOUNCED
Signature Theatre, always an industry leader, earned the highest number of 2005 Helen Hayes Award nominations amongst all the resident theatres. As announced in The Washington Post on March 1, "Among the locally produced musicals, Signature Theatre's revival of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Allegro leads the pack with seven nominations." The Washington Post article went on to state how Signature stands in good company, "With 17 nods, the Kennedy Center tops the list of nominated theatres this year, followed by Signature with 15, the Shakespeare Theatre with 14 and Arena Stage with 10." Of all the nominees who received multiple nods — including Eric Schaeffer for Outstanding Director, Resident Musical for Allegro and One Red Flower — Signature's Resident Musical Director Jon Kalbfleisch "trumps them all with three nominations" for Allegro, Elegies: A Song Cycle, and The Highest Yellow.
