The Apprentice at Signature offers hands-on professional experience to young performers and designers. Signature partners with the Arlington Public Schools’ Fine Arts Apprentice Program, a gifted program for students of theatre, music, dance, or visual arts. Theater Apprentices audition and interview with Signature staff and APS gifted program staff in order to be accepted into the program.
Upon acceptance, Apprentices have the opportunity to see all of Signature’s mainstage productions. Following each show, the Apprentices participate in a forum and talk informally with the actors about their work and experiences in the theatre. In addition, the Apprentices have the opportunity to develop their own acting skills in a series of audition workshops led by Signature Theatre’s Education Department. Students learn how to select and prepare audition material, how to present themselves during an audition, and how to craft a resume. Many Apprentices use this opportunity to develop their college audition material. The Apprentice at Signature hopes to provide an entry-level opportunity for the next generation of theatre professionals.
In addition, Apprentices have the opportunity to audition for Signature in the Schools, Signature’s award-winning education program.
